The conversation itself
- Give a firm handshake and a smile. The first greeting affects the entire conversation.
- Wait until the other person proposes to sit down.
- Watch your body language. Sit up straight in your chair and take an active listening position. Make eye contact during the conversation, even if you may be nervous. Avoid crossed arms and arched back.
- It’s easier said than done, but do as you normally do. Do not fill in what the interlocutor may want to hear from you, but listen carefully to the questions and answer them honestly and openly. Every person has good and bad sides, show that you are aware of that.
- Listen carefully to each question. Don’t be afraid of silences. Take the time to think about the answer. That way you can answer concisely and thoughtfully and you don’t go off track.
- Be enthusiastic and stay positive during the conversation.
Appearance
- Dress in the style of the company. But there’s always one rule: it’s better to dress a little too formal than casual for a job interview.
- Don’t be afraid to show some color or personality in your clothes. As long as it exudes a professional attitude.
- It is not wise to wear a lot of jewelry or to take several bags with you. You must look neat and organized.
- Personal grooming is of course a very important part of your presentation and reinforces a professional attitude.
